✦ Create an original alcoholic beverage label that connects to Ottawa. I chose to feature Mountain Orchards, as it’s one of my favourite places to go during the fall season. ✦ Develop a unique product identity as well as a marketing materials, such as 3D renderings and promotional Instagram material.
✦ Appeal to researched target audience (Individuals ages 19-30, Ottawa locals) in order to increase sales and recognition.
Design Process
✦ I paired these along with crabapples, which also happens to be a popular ornamental tree in Ottawa. I decided to go with a slightly haunted look, as Halloween was right around the corner–and also happens to be the orchard’s busiest time of year.
✦ Sketched initial ideas and exploring various layouts and focal pieces to capture the bold personality of the brand.
✦ Selected a rich, dark color palette to represent the flavour crab apples possess, tart and bitter.
✦ Incorporated a striking centerpiece element. It was necessary to heighten the contrast of the palette so the label was not only intriguing, but also stood out on the shelves. The “Crabby Apple” character was developed with not only the label in mind, but also future marketing materials.
✦ Created an animated reel for Instagram to advertise the release of this new cider by using quirky transitions and music to further expand the brand’s identity.
